Vintage Piano Sheet Music - Gustav Michelson Artist - Roaring 20's Art - Art Deco Ads - Suitable for Framing - My Gal

$9.95

Featured is a wonderful piece of vintage piano sheet music. This song is "My Gal" by Ed Nelson and Bud Cooper, but the best part about this piece is that the cover art was done by Gustav Michelson. Illustrator/cartoonist Gustav Erhard Rudolph Michelson (February 4, 1884 — March 7, 1964), of Swedish extraction, was born in Riga, Latvia and emigrated to the U.S. in 1893, settling in Boston with his family. He may have gotten his artistic leanings from his father John, a wood carver. He attended the Boston Latin School and New York's Art Students League. By 1904, he was working as an artist with The Boston American. For that and other papers like Morning World and The World, he worked in the editorial department illustrating news articles and features and, at times, drawing courtroom scenes for criminal cases. He also drew the comic strips "Mrs. Neighbourly" and "The Wonder Girl's Diary". His illustration work for magazines included publications like Harper's, McCall's, Puck, Every Week, and Motor Print. Illustration work for sheet music adorned such numbers as "My Gal", "Nanook", and "In China". And he illustrated at least one book, 1916's Jinks and Betty.

During the twenties, the lure of working in the movie industry attracted him to Hollywood where he painted movie posters for Pathe and Columbia. Some of his more famous works, simply signed with an "M", were for Mack Sennett and Hal Roach comedies as well as Paul Terry cartoons. He was a member of the California Art Club.

The piece is in very nice condition and is suitable for framing. See photos for exact details on condition. It measures about 12 1/4 inches by 9 1/4 inches. The colors are still very bold. There looks to be a signature (maybe previous owner?) below the title. Looks like J. Loomis Christian. There are also some pencil marks on the top left corner of the back cover (see photos).

Shipping Policy

I do combine shipping when possible for smaller items and refund shipping overages if they’re over $1.50. Note, many large items cannot be combined into one box and must be shipped separately to give them the best chance of making their way to you safely. I’m not trying to make money off of shipping charges, and will do my best to provide you with the lowest possible cost. I strive to ship items no later than the following business day. Items are generally shipped USPS priority mail which includes $50 insurance. All items are carefully packaged. If an item is damaged during shipping, please take pictures, save all packing materials, and let me know immediately so a claim can be filed with the shipper. The onus of filing the claim will fall upon the buyer. The post office has been requesting that damaged items and associated packing materials be brought in for inspection, and it is not possible for me, as the shipper, to do so. If you prefer an alternate shipping method please send me a message to discuss options.

Sometimes Priority Mail shipping is cost prohibitive (especially for those on the West Coast). Send me a message and we’ll see if Flat Rate shipping is possible. Prices for this service is generally about $21 for a “Large” box and about $15.00 for a “Medium” box. Note that USPS Flat Rate boxes aren’t that big, so this might not be an option when purchasing larger items.
